Infection Prevention and Control Essentials for Ambulatory Care
Ambulatory care, or outpatient care, is a rapidly growing sector with diverse settings which pose unique challenges for infection prevention and control (IPC). Many ambulatory care facilities lack adequate IPC resources and quality control when compared to acute care settings. Patients, both healthy and sick, flow in and out on a daily basis.
The designated IP on site is often responsible for other duties yet must have an understanding of IPC essentials and the ability to work effectively with the entire team to ensure patient safety is viewed as priority.
This course provides essential knowledge and key resources you need to build an IPC framework for your facility. Your registration includes APIC’s Ambulatory Care Workbook (PDF version), which includes relevant templates and resources for this specialized care setting.
In addition to general IPC basics, this course will cover the unique responsibilities of an ambulatory IP and common challenges found in this setting, including:
- Occupational Health
- Environmental Cleaning
- IPC Risk Assessment
- Cleaning, Disinfection, and Sterilization
